Oh, wow, okay, that's completely different than what I thought.

Z V K R... what are you trying to say, Alles? @Hero: You're putting it better than I could, but I agree, I don't think storing steel would help with sharpshooting. Also, the slower you are, the more chance your target will shift or flat-out move. I guess if your target is perfectly still? And you also have to account for wind, which changes, while you react slower. Shadows showed us that tapping steel is basically being in a personal, mobile bendalloy bubble, so storing must be like cadmium.

Yeah but my point is with storing fSteel your hands may only be quivering half as fast, but your reaction times are half as fast, too, so you’re still just as likely to pull the trigger at a point in time when your hands have quivered off target. The costs/benefits cancel each other out. Now maybe if you were storing physical speed and tapping mental speed at the same time...

Slower reaction times are fine on sharpshooting - you want quality over quantity. That's why alcohol is a banned performance-enhancing drug for those events in the olympics - it's a downer and a small dose will steady your hands and make you shoot better.

I don’t think that would work because while yes, your body would be moving slower, your reaction time would be slowed down by an equal amount.

Ohhhhh, how did that never occur to me? That could totally work, anytime you need your body not to twitch or shift weirdly but don't need to move fast.

Store F!Steel to steady your hands and make super-accurate sniper shots.

@Zath: Oooh, intriguing scenario.

One (albeit very contrived) scenario in which storing fSteel might be helpful: Bob the Steelrunner is just about to throw a knife at an enemy when that enemy turns around and (gasp) it's Bob's long-lost childhood friend! Bob, still in the middle of his throw, stores Steel to rob the throw of its power, thus sparing his friend injury. But yeah, storing fSteel is mostly detrimental.

Yeah, makes sense. Darn. I was hoping I could use storing to my advantage too.

I consider F.Steel to be storing the body's operational speed (some call this metabolism). I would not define it as storing the feruchemist's kinetic energy (what you would need to affect falling). That would be a VERY different power.

@Cabochard, I'd say fSteel only stores personal speed like response time and the ability to move your own body at a faster/slower pace, and wouldn't affect how your body responds to gravity or pure friction-less momentum (like falling through the air).
Sat Feb 17, 2018 9:21 pm
So, with steel-storing - does it only store personal speed (the kind you generate from running and walking) or could you also store to slow down if you were falling or thrown (or jumping off a train and wanted to land safely)?
