Re: The story thus far....

"Monster!" Eddard screams at the Lord Ruler as he moves to begin slaughtering Eddard's men. Captain Gont, fearless as ever, is the first to die, run through with Eddard's own spear. Eddard strains against his captors, flaring Pewter in an attempt to break free, but the strength of their own Pewter keeps him in check.

"Give it up, little thug," the Inquisitor on his right rasps in his ear. It had dropped its spear just a few paces away in order to hold Eddard's arm. "Your time will come. We have something special in store for you."

But Eddard ignore it. The other Inquisitor to his left grunts, and lets go of Eddard's arm with one hand to start scrambling at a pouch at its waste. A second later Eddard feels it's grip slacken noticeably, and the inquisitor gasps and slumps under the weight of its unhealed wounds.

It had just run out of Pewter.

Eddard flares his pewter and yanks his arm forward. The wounded inquisitor, now with only the strength of a normal man, is yanked forward too. Abruptly, Eddard jerks his arm back, slamming his armored elbow into the creature's throat, crushing its trachea. Simple and effective.

The inquisitor collapses to the ground, choking on the remains of its ruined throat. It fumbles its metal vial up to its mouth, but even if it is able to swallow it, the creature is already dead. Pewter isn't enough to compensate for a wound like that.

Eddard only has a moment to relish his kill before the other inquisitor swings him around by his right arm, slamming him to the deck and pinning him there with a knee in his back and his arm twisted up behind him. The obsidian tip of the creature's discarded spear lies just inches in front of Eddard's face.

From his position Eddard can't see his soldiers, but he can hear all too well their panicked cries as The Lord Ruler massacres them. Eddard bucks and twists, desperately trying to break loose from the inquisitor's grasp, but without success.

Eddard thrashes about again, but like before is unable to break free. The inquisitor has too good of a grip. To his right the sounds of his soldiers' screams have stopped. What is The Lord Ruler doing now? Is he coming back to kill me? All Eddard had succeeded in doing in the time it took the tyrant to slaughter his men was to rotate his position slightly on the deck. An idea strikes him.

Eddard continues bucking and thrashing with no more success than he had before. The inquisitor just laughs at him, oblivious to Eddard's real intent. Just a little more... One more kick and Eddard has the positioning right. He grasps the fallen spear just beneath its blade with his free hand and jabs it back over his shoulder. The inquisitor flinches- not much, but enough for Eddard to wrench his arm free. He rolls and kicks out, tripping the inquisitor off of him. There is a few seconds of mad scrambling and then the inquisitor rises to its feet. A couple paces away, Eddard does the same, but with the inquisitor's spear clutched in his hands.

"CHARGE!"

Robert's men, obedient to his command, surge forward, crashing into the line of Imperial soldiers that had hastily formed itself. Robert holds himself back from the initial charge. While he still has several minutes worth of Electrum, he cannot afford to burn it away fighting regular soldiers. He has more important enemies to deal with.

From his vantage point on the hill, Robert has a decent view of the conflict. Against the canal he can make out what is left of Eddard's strike force, pinned there by the imperial soldiers. The Lord Ruler's men themselves are pinned where they are by Robert's superior force. Outnumbered by four or five to one, the imperial men quickly begin to be overrun. Above the battle, Robert can see two figures fighting each other, one clad in black and the other wearing silvery platemail- Eddard then? or maybe Vorun? He can also see a third figure wearing a black and white suit, standing at the railing of the ship, overlooking the battle.

The Lord Ruler.

Eddard darts a glance at his men- only to find them all lying motionless at The Lord Ruler's feet. The Lord Ruler stands at the railing, his back to Eddard, observing the battle below. Eddard doesn't have a clear view of the battle at the bank, but judging from the shouts and cries the fighting has intensified. One side seems to be falling before the other, and Eddard has a dark suspicion as to which army will prove victorious.

Shadow straightens up, breathing in deeply. His chest and back flare in pain with the movement, but Shadow ignores it. He is still in awe at his new Allomantic power. He looks down at his bare chest and the half dozen spike heads now protruding from it. Blood trickles from several of the spike-wounds.

Prime had left him- visibly at least- but his last instructions still ring through Shadow's head.

... A Feruchemist and an Allomancer... Nothing more... Now Jastes... Kill him!

Eddard snaps the spear into guard position, jabbing it at the inquisitor to keep it at bay. They circle each other slowly, the inquisitor trying unsuccessfully to get in past the obsidian spearpoint. When Eddard gets the inquisitor lined up correctly- away from the Lord Ruler- he steps in, thrusting at the inquisitor's head. The inquisitor takes the bait, spinning around the speartip and stepping up close to Eddard. Eddard whirls the spear around and simultaneously kicks the inquisitor's lead foot out while driving the butt of the spear into its chest, knocking it off its feet. Wood chips fly as the spike tips jutting out of the back of the inquisitors skull slam into the wooden planks of the deck.

Robert stares at the distant figure of the Lord Ruler, and he can feel the figure's gaze directed back at him.

"That's right, you tyrant," Robert mutters angrily, "Come get us. We're ready for you."

He calls to his men to hold back and make sure that none of the Lord Ruler's troops could interfere, stepping up to confront the man himself.

Rashek stood overlooking the battle. Though he didn't visibly react to what he saw, he was far from still. Below him he wielded Steel and Iron like a tempest wields thunder and lightning. He struck down rebel soldiers by the dozen, and pulled scores more off their feet. His strikes weren't random, though, he focused his attacks where the enemy was the strongest and most organized, disrupting their efforts to stand against his men.

But then the second army joined the conflict, charging into his soldiers from behind with superior numbers. Rashek glowered, anger still burning hot within him. He tapped his Sightmind and Zincmind and quickly found the leader of the new army. He was a young lord, clad in Hazekiller armor and directing his troops with a stone-tipped spear. It was the man he had sent Haxlin to kill. Haxlin's head was currently mounted at the end of a spear held by one of the rebel lord's soldiers.

The lord looked up, locking gazes with Rashek across the distance, and stared at him defiantly, as if challenging him.

Very well then.
